This year, the 6th class pupils from Aughacasla NS are taking part in the Junior Entrepreneur Programme. This programme is designed to teach children about business and entrepreneurship. The students engage in thorough research, select a product, formulate a business plan, and then proceed to market and  sell their product with the goal of turning a profit.

A crucial component of the preparatory phase involves research and learning from experienced individuals. In support of our endeavours, we had the privilege of hosting local business person Caroline Lynch from the Dingle Food Company and TJ O’Connor, the Head of the Department of Culinary Arts at MTU, to share their insights on business and product development with our class. The visit proved to be exceptionally informative, and we express our sincere gratitude to both Caroline and TJ for their valuable contributions.

The students have shared some feedback about the experience.

“Caroline and TJ advised us to put our own story into our product to make it special and personal to us. I enjoyed their visit a lot. It was very informative.” – Aislinn Clifford

“TJ taught me to put in the hard work and be open to others opinions. He also advised me to promote our idea by using the locality so it would appeal to people.” – Róisín O’Driscoll

“They said you should try and get support from family and friends and always believe in yourself. Things might be hard but always keep going.” – Niamh Butler

“I think your words gave us inspiration and hope with our entrepreneur project. You taught us how to expand our presentation to the dragons. You told us what it’s like to be an entrepreneur. You can make mistakes, you can have a goal and you can make great achievements.” – Jamie Moore

“You taught us that if we wanted to sell and make a profit, we would need drive and passion and be very determined.” – Grace Cawley

“Overall it was a great experience and we learned a lot. Now I think no matter what we do it will be excellent because of Caroline and TJ.” – Éabha Dolan
