In Miss O’Shea’s class we have been busy doing summer art based on a poem we did in English – ‘The Lighthouse’.
We also wrote our own Lighthouse poems to go with our pictures.
We hope you enjoy them…………..
“The Lighthouse” By Adam Crean
There was an old man who lived in a lighthouse.
One day, he felt lonely and looked out the window and saw the city.
All he had was a boat and he had no friends.
Then one day, someone came and said,
“Do you want to be friends?”
“Lighthouse” By Jennifer O’Donnell
Lighthouse,
It has a great light that shines in the dark,
Good people see it each day,
Houses and lighthouses are quite different,
The saviour of lives,
Has a giant light,
Oh what a lovely place,
Used each night to guide the ships,
Sailors see the light at night,
Every day it’s turned on and off.
“The Lighthouse” By Orlagh Clifford
Lighthouses are for boats to sail,
Incredible to see at night,
Get close to one on a boat to see it,
Houses can be attached to them so people
Think they’re amazing,
Happy people come and go,
One is in Fenit, one is in Dingle too,
Unknown lighthouses are not real, the
Sunset is lovely behind the lighthouse,
Even though there is none in Camp, I will always remember the word Lighthouse.
“The Lighthouse” By Róise Deane
Light guides the ships to the harbour,
I was once a lighthouse keeper,
“Guide me”, a man on the ship said,
“Hide me”, I thought he said,
The light wasn’t turned on,
How I wondered why he wanted to be hidden?
Oh I saw the ship crash and sink,
Under the Lighthouse roof, I called an ambulance,
Searches were on, they found nothing,
Everyone decided that I was never to step foot in the Lighthouse again.
“Everyone Loves a Lighthouse” By Eoin Slattery
Lighthouse, Oh Lighthouse,
I wonder sometimes,
Good old lighthouse,
How do you make your shine?
Talented lighthouse.
How do you make your shine?
Oh Mr. Lighthouse,
Use you very night,
Saving all the sailors’ lives,
Everyone loves your light.
“The Lighthouse” By Sarah Keane
Lights up the dark,
It helps the sailors find their way,
Gets the sailors back to where they want to go,
How it helps to find the way,
The beautiful light is really nice,
How beautiful it is,
Outstanding in the dark,
Useful in the night,
Settling down after a long day,
Especially after all night up.
“My Magical Lighthouse” By Aoife Butler
Lights up in the fog,
It shines brighter than stars,
Gets the sailors back on track,
Helps them when they’re lost,
The light is so blinding,
How could we live without it,
Outstanding when it comes to the dark,
Use it when the sailors get lost,
Settle down after a long day,
Except when the batteries go low!
“The Lighthouse” By Jamie O’Connor
Once there was a lighthouse
Standing tall by the ocean.
You can see it miles away.
It shines so bright in the night,
Just so boats wouldn’t crash in the fog.
So no boats won’t get lost.
It warns the boats to go out.
It’s on an island.
It turns on every night.
“The Lighthouse” By Cillian Horan
Standing as tall as can be,
Your colours are what stand out to me,
Many people have lived in you,
Some day I would like to too.
You guide small boats and big ships,
Making sure they don’t turn into rips.
Those Sailors thank you.
“Lighthouse” By Jason Casey
Lighthouses are great,
In the night they are,
Great for,
Helping ships,
To keep away from the,
Hills and cliffs,
Only if they weren’t here, ships would be,
Unable to,
Sail in the,
Evening and night.
“The Lighthouse” By Éanna Murray
The Lighthouse shines bright every night,
Every hour of the night, that light shines,
During the day, that lighthouse stands tall,
At night it helps ships know that there are rocks nearby.
Big ships or small ships no matter what size,
They will know that rocks are nearby.
“The Lighthouse” By Mia Keane
Lighting up the sea at night,
It shows the ships their way around.
Gets the sailors home safe and sound.
However, some day something happened,
The two ships that were coming crashed.
However did it happen? The people asked.
“Oh No”, said the keeper, “what will we do”?
Using the phone, he called the
Search and Rescue team and
Everyone on the boats were fine.
“Mr. Lighthouse” By Gráinne O’Dwyer
There’s a lighthouse that stands proud.
He wears a coat of red and white stripes.
His hat is yellow and very bright.
I look at him and wonder,
Why does he sit on the headland and not come and play?
He looks at all the boats passing by and shouts:
“Look Out! There are Cliffs!”
When it’s all fog, he looks in his pocket,
Takes out a horn and blows, so they know where to go.
I wish he could come and play, but he has a job.
He and his friends guarding the sea.
You know you’re safe when a lighthouse is near.
“Happy Happy Sailors” By Molly O’Donoghue
Long, long ago,
Inside the lighthouse,
Gerard lived,
He would always,
Turn on the light,
Happy, happy sailors,
Only when the lights are on,
Usually he turns them on at
Seven O’Clock
Evening time.
“The Lovely Lighthouse” By Carla Qualter
Lighthouse stands high and tall,
Is the most beautiful of all,
Great are its’ colours all red and white,
Henry the keeper turns on the light,
The boats can see the way,
Howth Head, Mizen Head, name the lighthouse,
One lighthouse is even guarded by a mouse,
Unlucky sailors lose their way,
Several lighthouses will guide them to bay,
Everyone loves the lighthouses.
“The Lighthouse” By Katie Smith Galvin
Lights up in the dark,
It twinkles so bright,
Glows up on the harbour,
Highlights the stars,
The light is so powerful,
Helps them if they’re in danger,
Outstanding when sailors can’t find their way,
Useful in the dark,
Stops the fog going in their way,
Especially when it’s thunder and lightning.
“The Mystery Boat” By Aodh Connell
Up high in the lighthouse,
The lighthouse keeper saw a boat with many colours.
He turned on the light to see through the mist.
When he turned on the light, there was nothing there,
But waves crashing on the shore.
The lighthouse keeper ran down the stairs to tell everybody what he saw.
Nobody believed him.
And to this day, he still wonders what he saw.
