The 1st of February (Saint Bridget’s Day) was a very busy day in Aughacasla National School. The children made crosses from rushes and reeds to honour the feast day of St Brigid and the beginning of spring. There is an old tradition of mounting a St Brigid’s cross in a place of honour in a home, to protect against fire and evil spirits.
